What is keeping me optimistic about pride is representation. in 2026 we have seen a MASSIVE amount of queer content, references, television, movies, brands like Social Made Local, revolution, political unrest. Queer optimisim is engrained in popular culture through almost every avenue. I stay optimistic because it simply isn't possible for queer people to go anywhere - without it, popular culture shifts negatively. Pride is a protest, but Pride is also beautiful, exciting, cultural and communal! I am optimistic, excited and hopeful!!

The folks who show up for Gender Queer Coffee Club events keep me optimistic! I am so grateful for the usual crew and I'm always inspired by the new people who join in. Every month we have a few new faces and I KNOW how nerve wracking it can be to show up to an event where you might not know anyone. But the whole crowd is so welcoming and accepting and supportive that I'm constantly overwhelmed with gratitude and optimism. Things are tough out there but community is everything. We're stronger together!

Feeling the momentum growing at Queer Compass YXE keeps me optimistic. Each new and returning face reminds me that our community is steadily becoming more connected, to each other and to the land around us. It’s powerful to watch friendships take root and grow into networks of care and mutual support, especially in difficult times when those connections are crucial. In the same way, nature offers us a judgment-free sense of belonging. Knowing we can rely on both community and Mother Earth gives me real hope that we’re not just surviving, but moving towards a better future.

The fact that no matter how grim the world can get, there are still so many moments of pure queer joy! Whether it be a proposal on the ice at a PWHL game, or just influential folks speaking out in support of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, there's always a powerful moment waiting to shine.

Queer people give me hope. Every time I find myself despairing about the very real dangers our communities face, I think of our queer ancestors and how they resisted injustice and demanded liberation against impossible odds. They made my voice possible, and I want to pay that forward. My queer friends and fellow activists remind me why I do this work and help me feel less alone. Queerness is a fierce, tender force. Together, we are unstoppable.

What keeps me optimistic about queer life in 2026 is how deeply we’re choosing to exist as ourselves, even when it’s not easy. I see more honesty, more healing, and more people refusing to shrink. For me, it’s in the quiet wins too, feeling at home in my body, building community, and realizing we’re not just surviving anymore… we’re creating lives that actually feel like ours!
