We asked some of our favourite queer folks from across Canada what’s keeping them optimistic about queer life in 2026 and beyond.

    Ren (She/Her)

The fact that no matter how grim the world can get, there are still so many moments of pure queer joy! Whether it be a proposal on the ice at a PWHL game, or just influential folks speaking out in support of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, there's always a powerful moment waiting to shine.

    Pam (She/Her)

Queer people give me hope. Every time I find myself despairing about the very real dangers our communities face, I think of our queer ancestors and how they resisted injustice and demanded liberation against impossible odds. They made my voice possible, and I want to pay that forward. My queer friends and fellow activists remind me why I do this work and help me feel less alone. Queerness is a fierce, tender force. Together, we are unstoppable.

What keeps me optimistic about queer life in 2026 is how deeply we’re choosing to exist as ourselves, even when it’s not easy. I see more honesty, more healing, and more people refusing to shrink. For me, it’s in the quiet wins too, feeling at home in my body, building community, and realizing we’re not just surviving anymore… we’re creating lives that actually feel like ours!
